The comic page shown below is from October 1981.

As I’ve discussed in earlier posts, the top 4 panels of my Louie and Bruce full-length comic strips sometimes told a complete story that I could have used as a short strip. I did this intentionally in case the newspaper decided to run a short strip. As it was, though, the two local community papers that ran my strips always used the entire comic.

In 1981, I dreamed of getting into the syndicated comic world and having my comic strips published nationally. I tried for ten years but never succeeded. However frustrating rejection was at the time, upon reading years later the horror stories of that market, I’m glad I stayed a small-town cartoonist. Big corporate America is a mean place. With my humble personality, I’d have never fit in.
