Finally, Book 1 Is Final

I recently corrected some printing problems, which means the absolute last version of Night of the Hell Hounds and Other Stories from the Ridgewood Chronicles is finished and at Amazon in both ebook and paperback formats.

I haven’t written much about the cover, so I’ll do that now.

I kept the cover simple to make it easy to read and pleasing to the eyes. I like its uncluttered look. All the essential information is there with two decorative fonts to jazz it up, and a small decorative illustration to attract attention to a pair of hell hounds in commotion, drawn to suggest fire and flame.

Keeping that illustration simple but effective took beaucoup weeks to get right, and all the while I kept myself from adding color to it. Since the title story is about night and colors are almost nonexistent in low light settings, black, white, and gray made up my palette. I can get carried away with putting in lots of detail and elements in my illustrations, so I kept the mantra of graphic designers, “Keep it simple,” going through my mind while I worked.

Of course, the author’s adage, “If you don’t write it, you can’t get it published,” also played in my mind, so I spent weeks juggling my time between the two art forms. I’m happy and certain that I’ve done both writing and publishing the book to the best of my abilities.
