November brought some snow to my neck of the woods and the touches of winter put me in a writing mood. Many of my writer friends partook in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) during November, trying to write a 50,000-word first-draft novel by the end of the month. I, on the other hand, worked on my past writing projects and lost myself in the fun of “rediscovering” the masterpieces in my stories shoved away in forgotten files.
November seems to stir up power outages where I live and this year was no exception. Without access to the Internet for a few days during Thanksgiving week, I put aside my blogging chores and immersed myself in a major writing project that I’d planned for January 2023. It’s done and ready to be unveiled next month.
The first week of December brought rain and gusty winds, which knocked down trees and branches and took down a power pole. My street went 30 hours without electricity, so I was again without the Internet. I wrote in longhand, read books by candlelight, and cooked by matches and over an open flame.
Snow returned today. Power is on. And (as the song goes) it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Despite the cold and power outages, winter is a favorite time of year for me. I’ve written winter in many of my stories, and it appears a lot in my art. Below are some of my favorite artworks about this time of year. Enjoy.
Two paintings from 1991:

One from 1992:

And a landscape knife painting from 2001. This was a plein air done outside in the freezing cold—an experience I’ll always remember.

Of course, winter is a time to have fun too. Here are two Louie and Bruce comic strips from 1982:

And one from 1989, published in my local newspaper:

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading.
Peace and love,
