July is always my busiest month of birthdays, graduation parties, celebrating the Fourth, and the lawnmowing, weed pulling, and other lawn and garden requirements it brings. All that busyness creates a productivity freefall in my art and writing projects, including this blog. So, while some of us are sad to see the month end, I get a little giddy knowing I’ll have more time to write.
I’ve been working on getting book three of the Ridgewood Chronicles series ready for publication this year, so I was delighted when I could work on its cover art between July’s demands.

This is its tentative art and design so far. The book will have three stories in it and will be a continuation of the plights of Vree Erickson, the central character in the second book of the series (published in June on Amazon). The series will have five books and will be rewrites of their 2013 ebook publications when I’m finished.
But more on that later. This is an art post and I’m always happy when I make art, even when I’m making covers for my books. From drawing/painting hell hounds, dragons, and ancient compasses, making art is and always will be my first love.

Thanks for joining me today.
Peace, love, and goodwill to all of you.

Shading to show the value increments of light and dark is always fun for me when I’m creating form, especially when I use pencils. I love how the drawings pop against a black background.
