Today, I’m celebrating the one-year birthday of this blog. That doesn’t mean I’m new to blogging. I’ve been doing it since 1993, posting my writing and artwork for thirty years at webhosts such as popular-at-the-time GeoCities and MySpace, to name two.
I moved to WordPress in January 2011 and posted, “Hi. I’m a wildlife and landscape artist, cartoonist, poet, and independent author of fantasy fiction,” to introduce myself. Then I went to work building my Creating New Worlds site.

I published my first post “A Day In My Life” on February 20. It was a Sunday, which became a popular day of the week to blog. During the early days, topics ranged from art and writing to favorite books and commentary about life in general.
Even though I terminated Creating New Worlds and its offspring Art ~ Writing ~ Life, I’ve never been able to stop blogging and sharing my stories, artwork, and the occasional commentary about life. My first post last August here at Steve Campbell Creations was “Doing What We Love,” a commentary about doing things that make us happy.
For me, it’s spending a day blogging.
Or spending a day making art.
Or photographing wildlife.
Or writing a short story or the next chapter of a novel.
What we love doing reflects who we are. I remember a saying from my youth that went: “If it feels good, do it.” Feeling good gets us through the rough times in life. I had a friend with cancer who never let her misery get her down. She shone to her final breath and left me with valuable advice: “Find your happiness and live it. Life’s too short to be anything else.”
This little blog is my place to be happy.
Thanks for joining me in this celebration.
Peace and love to all.

I wish I would have started earlier. I’ve heard other long term bloggers say it was more interesting back then…I didn’t start until 2017.

I almost began blogging at WordPress in 2009 but changed my mind until a friend pleaded with me month after month to start up a blog here.
It was a friendly place during that time, and it seemed everyone was handing out awards for you to post after you answered questions about yourself. After that, you passed the awards on to others so they could do the same. I don’t see that camaraderie now, and most bloggers seem apprehensive about opening up and striking a dialogue, unless they hide behind a pseudonym. I think Internet bullying is to blame for that.

Yea…at first I was afraid to let my name out…now I don’t give a care. I think me being open about myself and the personal connection to music, movies, etc…is the reason I get the viewers I do. Some are so guarded about it.
I don’t talk politics at all…some of me is conservative and some liberal…it depends on the subject…so far no one has been too bad about it.
I agree…when I joined awards were going everywhere…and suddenly it stopped.

I never talk politics on the Internet. I’ll go one-on-one with my family or really close friends, but I spent 6 years in the military and talking politics and religion was highly frowned on. It was “Keep your personals to yourself.”

I started my blog this year and it’s my first time and it’s been really good for me. I’m looking forward to next year to write my own celebratory post for the blog. I think the best part is to see the vision for the blog changing… What we thought it would be and what we’re finding it to be~~

Although I have shut down my old blogs, I’ve kept my posts. It’s always fun for me to look back and see how I’ve grown as a writer and a person.
