I’m finishing editing Trespassing, the second book of my Ridgewood Chronicles series for re-release by next weekend (if all goes well). It’s around 26,000 words long, making it a novella-length book, and it will be published in paperback and ebook formats on Amazon. Other publishing venues such as Draft2Digital (formerly Smashwords) and Barnes & Noble Press are slated for future releases.
It’s both a frustrating and exciting process to self-publish a book—lots of ups and downs and weeks of promoting the book hoping someone will read it, like it (fingers crossed), and leave a favorable written review … any review, actually (fingers and toes crossed).
Although it’s a fantasy story featuring my young adult character Vree Erickson, I hope adult readers will read it too. Here is the tentative book description so far:
Young Vree Erickson just wanted to receive her witch powers, but she never expected to fight for her life to get them.
When her Aunt Emily Umberto begins teaching her about witchcraft and magic, Vree discovers she has an inoperable and life-threatening brain tumor that requires her to find a healing crystal somewhere in the off-limit tunnels and caves beneath Myers Ridge.
A cruel magic eater—a giant fiery Rottweiler named Blood—tries to stop her from disturbing the crystals by eating her magic. However, a fall deeper into the ridge leads her to disturb an important crystal and release Dargwawl, a dragon who needs her magic to escape imprisonment.
With the tumor threatening to kill her and without her magic to help her, will she outwit the dragon and magic eater and find the healing crystal in time to save her life?
Trespassing is the second installment of the Ridgewood Chronicles series by Steven Leo Campbell.
I’m also in the middle of working on the book’s cover design and keeping it similar to Night of the Hell Hounds, the first book in the series.

Dargwawl the dragon is a central character, so I chose her as the featured artwork.
Thanks for joining me for a glimpse into my world of authoring and self-publishing books.
Peace and love.

I wish you the best Steve! I know it must be a challenge to self publish.

Thanks Max. There are many hats to wear when one self-publishes anything, but the end product is more meaningful than if a team of others put their hands on it and change it into something of theirs, living up to the adage about too many cooks spoiling the broth.

I totally agree with that. Musicians feel the same way about their products as well.
