Books Page

As I promised last year, I’m bringing back my books page to the Steve Campbell Creations website but giving each book its own page.

Right now, I have only one book on the market, and that’s Night of the Hell Hounds and Other Stories from the Ridgewood Chronicles. Other books are coming and will have their homes with Night under the Books and Stories heading.

I spent a few days last week designing the page with pencil and paper before I wrote the page design here at Steve Campbell Creations. I had several ideas for what I wanted the page to look like, and I examined some old website files of mine for ideas and found myself reminiscing about the long-gone days of the world wide web.

For what it’s worth, I’m posting two of my old websites here.

The first is my site that ran from 1993 to the final months of 2010. I took the screenshot you see below on the day I pulled the plug on it.

It was more of a newsletter site where I kept in contact with my readers who downloaded my free stories. Although it wasn’t my official website, it’s where I had the most fun with my fans. It’s also where I included doodles and sketches, usually one-panel gags and such.

Like I said, I had a lot of fun at that site. My official website—the one that appeared on the business cards I handed out at book fairs—featured the same stories at my other site, but only as pages. I guess you could call it “the grownup in the room” because of its formality. One feature I liked was my FAVORITE AUTHORS section, which took readers to the authors’ official webpages.

Interestingly, nearly every story that appeared at my two websites are in Night of the Hell Hounds and Other Stories from the Ridgewood Chronicles but edited to newer and better versions.

Thanks for joining me for a look back on my writing career, and a glimpse at the future here at this blog.

Until next time, peace and love.

  1. I finally got around to purchasing Night of the Hell Hounds and Other Stories from the Ridgewood Chronicles.

I am not a great fan of stories about the supernatural, but your stories drew me in because they reminded me of some local ghost stories I heard as a kid in my local area. I felt like Ridgewood and Myers Ridge (our version was the Ghost Hollow) was my hometown.

My only critique is that the language tended to be passive at the beginning, but because of the connection I felt, I kept reading until it reached a point I had to keep going to see how it would end despite knowing I would likely have a nightmare. I would give your book a 4 out of 5 on the spooky scale, mainly because my nightmares were relatively mild. 🙂

    1. Thanks for purchasing the book, Joseph, especially since you’re not a great fan of supernatural stories. And special thanks for the critique 😊. A 4 out of 5 on the spooky scale is good news since I try to keep my stories on the spooky side of the fear scale. I rarely cross the line into horror and terror, but I often go to the borderline for a quick wade in the waters. Some readers critique my stories as Twilight Zone-esque, which I think is a fair description of my stories, though I need to incorporate more humor into the texts I’m writing now (the way Rod Serling did with TZ) to help give my stories a better rollercoaster ride of emotions.

      1. You’re welcome. It is my first Kindle book I have, so it has brought me into the 21st century, lol.
A couple of your stories made the hair stand up on my neck. I thought you had a good blend of humor in your stories. I am a fan of the Twilight Zone stories too.

      2. Welcome to the 21st century, Joseph. 🙂 Thanks again for feedback about my book of stories. I hope to finish editing and then publishing the next Ridgewood Chronicles book this year. The lead character is female and young, so it will fall under the “young adult” (YA) category and will likely be buried under the thousands of other YA books at Amazon. But, like every story I write, I’ll do my best to make it an interesting read. I get very excited about releasing my books, and this one is no exception. I’ll have to curb my excitement and keep a level head when I get nearer the release of it.

    1. JPC, I worked at my local hospital for 3 years and made that cartoon for the Emergency MedTechs and Paramedics. It was a shoutout to the Trekkers in the group to brighten their day. Glad you enjoyed it.
