Feeling the Rain

I have been an artist most of my adult life. It has brought me awards and recognition beyond my desires. And it has brought me to crossroads when I’ve no longer felt challenged by it. Which is why I turned to other passions during those times.

One of those other passions is writing, divided into two unique loves: poetry and fiction. I revel losing myself in my writing, going off in tangents, and exploring. This often results in a jumbled mess that I must decipher into coherency—something that makes sense when you read it.

I write my best inside a cool, quiet, and airy room, no matter the season. Winter days are fun but rainy days are my favorite times to write—there’s something refreshing about rain, to watch and hear it from a window, AND to smell, taste, and feel it outdoors. I easily recall my childhood of sloshing and slopping in it. I can’t resist getting a little wet—and grinning like a kid when I do.

Perhaps that’s why I like writing stories about children and teens. I want to feel the rain when I write. The same rain I felt during my adolescent years.

We’re all kids at heart. And kids love unconditionally. When we’re fortunate to work jobs we love, they’re like playgrounds where we can run as fast as we can, fall and skin our knees, get into arguments with any big bully who tries to shove us down, and climb to the top of the monkey bars to get a better view of the world.

That’s what writing is to me. And right now, I’m feeling the rain.

That’s all for now.

Thanks for stopping by.

Peace and love to all.
